1970年代末，文革结束后平反的老干部江子谷，携妻带女重返陕北看望老战友。见到老丁，四目相对，俩人共同回忆起当年在彭总身边的往事，内心感慨万千。当年的“小狗子”现如今已是军分区的苟司令员，他听说江子谷来到这里，连忙找来，和他一起去当年的蟠龙战役旧址，缅怀已故的先烈。苟司令的爱人羊秀英也是当年的苦娃子，当时穷的连裤子都没有。江子谷还在宾馆遇上了如今已蜕变的安文剑。在延安，江子谷巧遇当年的国军师长周兴宇，他正向彭总的塑像行礼，时世变迁啊......。A deserted pond. Two lonely children fall under the spell of this wild place that, little by little, draws them closer to each other and gives them the strength to cope with life. Seen through their eyes, and through their imaginations, the pond becomes a secret kingdom, both marvellous and frightening, thronging with creatures born from dreams or nightmares.
